This time last year, I had just returned to work after my second maternity leave. It was a bittersweet moment—on one hand, I was ready to step back into a world beyond nappies and night feeds, but on the other, I felt a deep pull to be more present with my daughters. I longed for more balance, for a way to truly have the best of both worlds.
What I didn’t know then was how much life would change in just 12 months. Fast forward to now, and I’m running my own business. It still feels surreal to say those words.
When I returned to work last year, I thought I had my path figured out. I wanted more flexibility and time with my family, but I never imagined I’d leave the corporate world altogether—let alone start my own business.
Yet here I am, running The Natural Supermarket, a business that began as a passion project and has now become a full-time commitment. While I probably work more hours than I ever did in my accounting career, it feels different. Now, I’m working in between school runs, nap times, and bedtime stories. My office hours might be unconventional, but they work for my family, and that means everything to me.
More Than Just a Business
The Natural Supermarket is more than just a business to me—it’s a reflection of my values and the life I want to build for my children. I started this journey after years of searching for healthy, toxin-free products, inspired in part by my eldest daughter’s battle with eczema. I wanted to create a one-stop shop for people like me, who wanted to make better choices without spending hours researching every ingredient.
This year, we’ve achieved so much. From launching incredible new brands to introducing our personal shopping service, every milestone has been a reminder of how far we’ve come. And while running a business is hard work, it’s the kind of work that fills my heart.
Gratitude for the Journey
I won’t pretend it’s been easy. There have been sleepless nights, moments of doubt, and plenty of juggling. But there’s also been an overwhelming sense of purpose and pride. I’ve found a new confidence in myself, one I didn’t know existed.
I’m so grateful for everything 2024 has brought—every challenge, every win, every lesson. I’m especially thankful for you, my customers, who have supported me every step of the way. Your trust in me and my store has been the biggest gift.
Looking Ahead
As I look towards 2025, I’m excited about what’s to come. We’ll be welcoming more amazing brands, expanding our personal shopping service, and continuing to make toxin-free living accessible and easy for everyone.
This time last year, I couldn’t have imagined this life. And while it’s far from the “balance” I thought I wanted, it’s everything I didn’t know I needed.
